SCOTLAND IS IN RAVE HEAVEN!

Undoubtedly, the year 2022 has started in a similar vein to its two predecessors and the world is trying its absolute hardest to give us things to be upset about, but aside from a full scale World War 3 potentially breaking out in the coming weeks, this happens to be, at least for me, THE most exciting year for Hardcore that I have ever witnessed… and that includes the 90’s!

The sheer abundance of huge events that have been announced lately are filled with amazing promise for a meteoric rebirth of our beloved genre, but from an old skool raver like myself, it has to be said; nowhere, and I do mean nowhere… as-in, on the whole planet… looks more attractive right now, than Scotland!

Some of you may already know, I grew up in the North East of England where my musical preference was heavily influenced by ‘Scottish Hardcore’, starting on a techno vibe with the likes of Ultrasonic, and Bass X, followed swiftly by my discovery of gabber, and happy hardcore.

I was 16 before I made it to my first rave, and that wasn’t until 1996, so I had already missed a lot by then. I remember my obsession with flyers, and always looking for the “perfect line up”. We had the pinnacle of hardcore events back then; Rezerection, Fubar, Judgement Day, the more local (to me), Powerhouse, and my beloved, Colosseum. We were spoiled with options, and thought the party would last forever… but it didn’t!

By 1998, most of what we knew as a hardcore scene at that time, was gone. To this day I still regret not making it to one of the mighty Rezerection events. I was just on the cusp of being too young, but still… it could have happened. I now have even more regrets to look forward to, along with a monumental amount of envy for the people of Scotland, as I will not be able to attend the event I have literally been dreaming of my whole life… THE ULTIMATE 90s RAVE!

It’s like this event lays out a detailed road map to my whole evolution as a raver, boasting a stable of my favourite acts, ranging from the time I purchased my first ever record; Bass X’s ‘Hardcore Disco’ back in 1993, through to 2006, which is when I boarded a plane to America, and partially died on the inside!

As far as I’m concerned, this is the perfect rave, and if you miss it, you will regret it for the rest of your life, just like me!

To start with, the venue for this mega rave is The Royal Highland Center, aka, the former home of Rezerection. The site, which will have four marquees and an outdoor stage, promises plenty of space to dance or chill, with easy accessibility to each area.

The line up is absolutely ridiculous, with pure legends literally bursting out of every arena.

Taking place in Glasgow, at the Classic Grand, Mallorca Lee proudly presents a night of 100% Old Skool, featuring; ULTRA-SONIC, RHYTHM QUEST, RHYTHMIC STATE, SCOTT BROWN, GEORGE BOWIE, TREVOR REILLY, JOE DEACON, MALCOLM X, and MC CYCLONE.

Then, later in April, RAVE HEAVEN will take over the Classic Grand with an amazing night of UK Hardcore, featuring; ANDY WHITBY, SCOTT BROWN, CHRIS UNKNOWN, MC STORM, OAKZY B & MC TINY, DJ RANKIN, AV18, THE DOCTOR, and more!

Hold your horses though… we’re not quite finished yet! In May, TTF will take over Glasgow’s Braehead Arena with a mahoosive nostalgia tickling showdown, featuring; TTF, DJ SAMMY, SASH!, FRAGMA, CAPPELLA, GEORGE BOWIE, N-TRANCE, FELIX, WHIGFIELD, JX, DREAM FREQUENCY, SCOTT BROWN, ULTRABEAT, and MICKY MODELLE.
